El sanfelipeño Mario León Díaz de Valdés, ex seleccionado nacional de Bicicross e Ingeniero de Ejecución en Prevención de Riesgos y Medioambiente, que se ha desempeñado tanto en el sector público como privado, fue nombrado como nuevo Director Regional del Instituto Nacional de Deportes.
El Presidente de la República, Sebastián Piñera Echenique –a través del Ministerio del Deporte- nombró al Ingeniero de Ejecución en Prevención de Riesgos y Medioambiente, Mario León Díaz de Valdés, como nuevo director regional de Valparaíso del Instituto Nacional de Deportes (IND), tras realizarse el respectivo concurso de Alta Dirección Pública.
Mario León cursó sus estudios en la Universidad de Aconcagua y cuenta con un diplomado en Gestión de Riesgos de la Dirección General de Protección Civil y Emergencias de España. Es oriundo de San Felipe y reside en Viña del Mar, es soltero, tiene 1 hijo, y su carrera profesional la ha desarrollado tanto en la Región de Valparaíso como en el norte de nuestro país.
Desde el año 2010 y hasta el 2012, se desempeñó como Encargado del Departamento de Prevención de Riesgos y Medio Ambiente en Puerto Ventanas S.A., para luego ejercer como profesional de apoyo de la dirección regional de Antofagasta de la Oficina Nacional de Emergencias (ONEMI), institución en la que además ejerció el cargo de director regional entre los años 2012 y 2014.
Entre 2014 y 2015 tuvo el cargo de gerente Zona Norte de la empresa de seguridad industrial Falck Safety Services. En el año 2015 retorna a la Región de Valparaíso como agente de sucursal y posteriormente como gerente regional de la Caja de Compensación La Araucana, rol que ejerce hasta mediados del año 2017, cuando decide emprender y se desempeña como gerente de Nuevos Negocios de Informática WebCompu Ltda.
El nuevo director regional del Instituto Nacional de Deportes tiene 37 años, y no es ajeno a la práctica deportiva, ya que fue seleccionado nacional de bicicross infantil y juvenil, habiendo participado en campeonatos mundiales de la disciplina en Brasil (1992) en donde obtuvo el 6° lugar entre 87 competidores; y en Colombia (1995) en donde llegó hasta la instancia de semifinales. También compitió en el Sudamericano de Bicicross de 1993 en Argentina, obteniendo el tercer lugar. Fue campeón nacional de la especialidad durante 4 años, entre 1993 y 1996, cuando se retiró del deporte competitivo. Actualmente práctica pádel y running.
